DTC P16EC: LIN Communication Error (Powertrain Control Module (PCM)-Left Active Exhaust Actuator)

The local interconnect network (LIN) line connects the left active exhaust valve and the powertrain control module (PCM). The LIN uses a master/slave protocol to send and receive data to the different components on the line. The slave node communicates according to the master node. If the PCM cannot receive signals from the left active exhaust valve or the received information is abnormal, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold

Either one of the conditions is met for at least 5 seconds:

The PCM cannot receive any information from the left active exhaust valve via the LIN line.
The information sent from the left active exhaust valve is abnormal.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Left active exhaust valve LIN(FI-ECU) line open
Left active exhaust valve LIN(FI-ECU) line short to ground
Left active exhaust valve LIN(FI-ECU) line short to power
Left active exhaust valve failure
PCM internal circuit failure

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
