DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0616 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P0616: Starter Cut Relay Diagnosis Circuit Low Voltage
General Description
The START_DIAG line monitors the voltage of the line between starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2. The voltage level when starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2 are on/on or off/off are measured to detect stuck on and stuck off of each relay and open circuit of the START_DIAG line. If the START_DIAG voltage is in a specified range while the starter is off, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The START_DIAG terminal voltage [Starter Cut Relay] is low (between 0 V and 2 V) for at least 5 second while the starter is off.
Possible Cause
- Starter cut relay START_DIAG line short to ground
- Starter cut relay 2 stuck on
- PCM internal circuit failure

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
