DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0522, P0523 (3.0L Engine)

DTC P0522:  Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Voltage DTC P0523:  Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit High Voltage

General Description

GHH479778Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.
GHH479779Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

The engine oil pressure sensor detects engine oil pressure and converts it into electrical signal. The engine oil pressure sensor outputs low signal voltage at low pressure and high signal voltage at high pressure. If the engine oil pressure output voltage is excessively high or low, the powertrain control module (PCM) detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold

DTC: P0522

The engine oil pressure sensor output voltage [Rocker Arm Oil Pressure (EOP) Sensor Voltage] is 0.324 V* 1 (0.193 V)* 2 or less for at least 0.5 second.

DTC: P0523

The engine oil pressure sensor output voltage [Rocker Arm Oil Pressure (EOP) Sensor Voltage] is 4.813 V* 1 (4.872 V)* 2 or more for at least 0.5 second.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
