DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0069 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P0069: Barometric Pressure (BARO) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem
General Description
The barometric pressure (BARO) sensor is built into the powertrain control module (PCM) and monitors atmospheric pressure. The measured BARO sensor value is compared with the value of the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor before the engine is started. If the difference between the measured BARO sensor value and the value of the MAP sensor before the engine start is excessive, the PCM detects a malfunction in the BARO sensor output and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 10 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | Two drive cycles, MIL on |
Enable Conditions
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elapsed time after the vehicle is turned to the ON mode | 500 milliseconds | - | |
| Canister change over valve | Open | ||
| EVAP leak check module vacuum pump | Off | ||
Malfunction Threshold
The absolute difference between the BARO sensor value and the value of the MAP sensor before the engine is started is 15 kPa (113 mmHg, 4.5 inHg) or more for at least 10 seconds.
Possible Cause
- BARO sensor failure
- MAP sensor failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, and leave the vehicle for at least 10 seconds.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for at least 11 seconds.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
