DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0034 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P0034: Turbocharger Bypass Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Voltage
General Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) controls the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve to adjust the timing of pressure relief and improves the response of the boost pressure when the vehicle is re-accelerated immediately after the deceleration and reduces the boost pressure during the deceleration as well. The turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve is normally closed (negative side pressure). If the voltage level of the ABV terminal is ON (low voltage) despite the PCM outputs OFF signal to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The voltage level of the ABV terminal is ON (low voltage) for at least 0.5 second despite the PCM outputs OFF signal to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve.
Possible Cause
- Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve ABV line short to ground
- PCM internal circuit failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Press the accelerator pedal hard, and accelerate the vehicle in the range of operating the turbocharger.
- Release the accelerator pedal to decelerate.
- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
