VTEC Rocker Arm Test: Test
How to use this Service Information .
- VTEC Rocker Arm - Test (VTEC Inoperative State)
■ Preconditions
■ Procedure/Specifications
1. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise.
2. Make sure that the secondary rocker arm (A), the primary rocker arm (B), and the mid rocker arm (C) are separated and that the secondary rocker arm and the mid rocker arm moves independently.
Normal conditions
Rocker arms separated and should move independently ■ Result
- If it is abnormal, check that the pistons in the rocker arms move smoothly. If any rocker arm needs replacing, replace the rocker arm assembly .
- VTEC Rocker Arm - Test (VTEC Operation State)
■ Preconditions
■ Procedure/Specifications
1. Check that the air pressure on the shop air compressor gauge indicates over 400 kPa (4.08 kgf/cm 2, 58.0 psi).
2. Inspect the valve clearance - Refer to: Valve Inspection
3. Install the VCM air adapter to the inspection hole, then connect the air pressure regulator. (Figure 1)
Figure 1
4. Loosen the valve on the air pressure regulator, and apply the specified air pressure.
Specified Air Pressure
290 kPa (2.96 kgf/cm 2, 42.1 psi) 5. With the specified air pressure applied, rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise.

6. Make sure that the secondary rocker arm (A) moves together with the mid rocker arm (B) and the primary rocker arm (C). (Figure 2)
Normal conditions
Rocker arms should move together Result
- If it is abnormal, check that the pistons in the rocker arms move smoothly. If any rocker arm needs replacing, replace the rocker arm assembly .
