Alternator Inspection: Inspection

How to use this Service Information .

1. Brush - Inspect

   ■ Preconditions 

   • Brush Holder Removed

   ■ Procedure/Specifications 

   • Measure the length of both brushes (A). (Figure 1)

   Tool Details (Figure 1) 

   Name
   B: Vernier Caliper

   Normal Conditions (Figure 2) 

   Position	Specifications
   C	Standard (New)	10.5 mm (0.413 in)
   	Service Limit	1.5 mm (0.059 in)

   ■ Result 

   • If the measurement is not within specifications, replace the brush holder.
2. Rotor (Continuity Between the Slip Rings) - Test

   ■ Preconditions 

   • Rotor Removed

   ■ Procedure/Specifications 

   • Check for continuity between the slip rings (A, B).

   Normal Conditions 

   Between	Specifications
   A - B	continuity

   ■ Result 

   • If it is abnormal, replace the rotor.
3. Rotor (continuity between the slip ring, the rotor, and the rotor shaft) - Test

   ■ Preconditions 

   • Rotor Removed

   ■ Procedure/Specifications 

   • Check for continuity between each slip ring (A, B), the rotor (C), and the rotor shaft (D).

   Normal Conditions 

   Between	Specifications
   A - C	no continuity
   A - D	no continuity
   B - C	no continuity
   B - D	no continuity

   ■ Result 

   • If it is abnormal, replace the rotor.
