Intake Air System - Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) Valve System (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022)
The intake manifold tuning (IMT) valve system has a twin inhalation air passageway system with different pipe lengths installed inside the manifold. By switching between passageways depending on the engine speed, it obtains the optimum intake air inertia effect in all driving ranges. In the low-speed range, the system uses the primary side with the longer intake pipe and narrower diameter in order to improve engine torque by utilizing the intake air inertia and speeding up the flow of intake air. In the high-speed range, the IMT valve opens and the secondary side with the shorter intake pipe and wider diameter is used to obtain higher output. The IMT system is comprised of the IMT valve, which is installed inside the intake manifold, and the IMT actuator, which opens and closes the IMT valve according to signals from the powertrain control module (PCM). In addition, an opening sensor is mounted on the IMT actuator to monitor whether its operation matches the PCM signal.
