Engine Oil Pressure Test (L4): Test
If the low oil pressure indicator stays on with the engine running, check the engine oil level - Refer to: Engine Oil Level Check (L4) . If the oil level is correct, go to the next procedure.
- Oil Pressure Switch - Remove
- Engine Oil Pressure - Test
1. Install an oil pressure gauge (A).
2. Start the engine. Shut it off immediately if the gauge registers no oil pressure. Repair the problem before continuing
3. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature (fan comes on at least twice). The pressure should be:
Engine Oil Temperature: 176 °F (80 °C) Engine Oil Pressure: At Idle: 70 kPa (0.71 kgf/cm 2, 10.1 psi) min. At 3, 000 rpm: 300 kPa (3.06 kgf/cm 2, 43.5 psi) min. 4. If oil pressure is out of specifications, inspect these items:
- Oil filter blocked or plugged.
- Oil strainer blocked or plugged.
- Inspect the oil pressure relief valve - Refer to: Engine Oil Pump Overhaul (L4) (2015-17), or Engine Oil Pump Overhaul (L4) (2018-19) .
5. Remove the oil pressure gauge.
- All Removed Parts - Install
1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
