Pump Outlet Hose/Inlet Line Replacement

NOTE: Plug the pump outlet hose end and inlet line end after disconnecting them.
  1. Remove the engine cover (see step 7 on ENGINE REMOVAL ).
  2. Raise and support the vehicle (see LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ).
  3. Remove the front wheel on the passenger's side.
  4. Place a suitable container under the vehicle to catch any spilled fluid.
  5. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir (see FLUID CHECK/REPLACEMENT  ).
  6. Cover the auto-tensioner, the alternator, and the A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid.
  7. Disconnect the pump outlet hose (A) and O-ring (B) from the pump.
    NOTE:
    • Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once.
    • Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump outlet hose removed.

  8. Cover the opening of the pump to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.
  9. Remove the pump outlet hose clamp bolt (C).
  10. Loosen the 16 mm flare nut (A), and disconnect the inlet line (B).

  11. Remove the inlet line clamp bolt (C).
  12. Remove the inlet line clamp bolt (A), and disconnect the power steering pressure switch connector (B).

  13. Remove the pump outlet hose/inlet line (A) through the wheelwell opening on the passenger's side.

  14. Install the pump outlet hose/inlet line in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Fill the system with power steering fluid, and bleed air from the system (see FLUID CHECK/REPLACEMENT  ).
    • Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, the alternator, the A/C compressor, the drive belt, or the pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.
    • Start the engine, allow it to idle, and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to warm up the fluid. Check the gearbox for leaks (see FLUID LEAKAGE INSPECTION  ).
    • Clean the mating surface between the brake disc and the inside of the wheel, then install the front wheel.
