How to Enter the Self-diagnostic Function

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Acura TL, 2010 Acura TL, and 2009 Acura TL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Always check for and repair any CAN DTCs before troubleshooting the AcuraLink system
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode
  2. Touch OK on the disclaimer screen
  3. Press and hold the MAP/GUIDE, CANCEL, and MENU buttons at the same time for 3 seconds more, and the self-diagnosis begins

  4. Using the interface dial, select the Select Diagnosis Items from the Detail Information & Setting Press the interface dial

  5. Using the interface dial, select the XM (HIP) from the Detail Information & Setting menu Press the interface dial

  6. The display indicates XM (HIP) System Link, and does an AcuraLink connection check for each device If a connection is faulty, the place where it is faulty is indicated with NG (red color)

  7. When red (NG) is indicated, check the continuity between the AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) and the device indicated in red
    ACURALINK CONTROL UNIT RESULT REFERENCE

    Device indicated in red Test condition Test Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained
    F-CAN Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(3)
    • Yaw rate-lateral longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(2)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 3 of the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(2) or yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(2) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 2 of the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(2) or yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(2) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • PCM connector A (49P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 49 of PCM connector A (49P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 48 of PCM connector A (49P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 10 of gauge control module 32P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 9 of gauge control module 32P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 2 of TPMS control unit 20P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 11 of TPMS control unit 20P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 12 of audio-navigation unit connector H (28P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 25 of audio-navigation unit connector H (28P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 1 of EPS control unit connector D (28P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 15 of EPS control unit connector D (28P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P)(1)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 10 of SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 20 of SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(1)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 4 of the steering angle sensor 5P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 2 of steering angle sensor 5P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 34 of power control unit connector A (36P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 35 of power control unit connector A (36P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 12 of VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 13 of VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 17 of SRS unit connector A (39P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 16 of SRS unit connector A (39P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(3)
    • Yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(2)
    • PCM connector A (49P)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P)(2)
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(2)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminals No 1 and No 7 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) There should be no continuity A short in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminals No 1 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) There should be no continuity A short in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • Yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(3)
    • Yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(2)
    • PCM connector A (49P)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P)(2)
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(2)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver)
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • PCM connector A (49P)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A(20P)(2)
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(2)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor(3) or yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor(2)
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(3)
    • Yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(3)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P)(2)
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(2)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in the PCM
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector 2
    • Yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector 1
    • PCM connector A (49P)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P) 1
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(2)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in EPS control unit
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector(2)
    • Yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector(2)
    • PCM connector A (49P)
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • TPMS control unit 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P) 1
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector(2)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in the gauge control module
    Disconnect these items

    • Gauge control module 32P connector

    • VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector
    • SRS unit connector A (39P)
    • EPS control unit connector D (28P)
    • SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P)(2)
    • Steering angle sensor 5P connector1
    • Audio-navigation unit connector H (28P)
    Check for continuity between terminals No 7 and No 6 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and body ground There should be no continuity A short in the power control unit
    B-CAN Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 6 of driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P) disconnected There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 5 of driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P) disconnected There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 11 of passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P) disconnected There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 29 of passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P) disconnected There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Door multiplex control unit 37P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 35 of door multiplex control unit 37P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 33 of door multiplex control unit 37P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 26 of gauge control module 32P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 25 of gauge control module 32P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit(XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 18 of HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 17 of HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Power seat control unit connector A (40P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 40 of power seat control unit connector A (40P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 39 of power seat control unit connector A (40P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Climate control unit connector C (20P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 8 of climate control unit connector C (20P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 7 of climate control unit connector C (20P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector D (20P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 6 of audio-navigation unit connector D (20P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 15 of audio-navigation unit connector D (20P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 16 of power control unit connector A (36P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 17 of power control unit connector A (36P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Remote slot control unit 40P connector
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 3 of remote slot control unit 40P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 23 of remote slot control unit 40P connector There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Keyless access control unit connector B (32P)
    Check for continuity between terminal No 9 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 8 of keyless access control unit connector B (32P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Check for continuity between terminal No 8 of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and terminal No 7 of keyless access control unit connector B (32P) There should be continuity An open in the wire
    Disconnect these items
    • AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
    • Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P)
    • Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P)
    • Door multiplex control unit 37P connector
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
    • Power seat control unit connector A (40P)
    • Climate control unit connector C (20P)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector D (20P)
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • Remote slot control unit 40P connector

    • Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P)
    • Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P)
    • Door multiplex control unit 37P connector
    • Gauge control module 32P connector
    • HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
    • Power seat control unit connector A (40P)
    • Climate control unit connector C (20P)
    • Audio-navigation unit connector D (20P)
    • Power control unit connector A (36P)
    • Remote slot control unit 40P connector
    • Keyless access control unit connector B (32P)
