  2. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting; '04-06 models (see '04-06 MODELS ), '07-08 models (see '07-08 MODELS ).
  3. Select Shift Solenoid A, B, C, D, and E in the Miscellaneous Test Menu on the HDS.
  4. Check that shift solenoid valves A, B, C, D, and E operate with the HDS. A clicking sound should be heard.
  5. The shift solenoid valves test is finished if the test results are OK. If no sound is heard, remove the shift solenoid valves, and test the shift solenoid valve.
  6. Remove the splash shield.
  7. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF). Then reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).

  8. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the audio presets.
  9. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the battery positive cable.
  10. Remove the battery hold-down bracket, then remove the battery cover, the battery, and the battery tray.
  11. Remove the intake air duct and the air cleaner assembly.
  12. Loosen the two bolts securing the battery base from under the vehicle, and remove the two bolts securing the battery base in the engine compartment, then remove the battery base.
  13. Remove the ground cable (A), transmission upper mount bracket (B), and bracket plate (C).

  15. Lift the transmission up to create clearance between the transmission and the front subframe with the jack.
  16. Remove the ATF dipstick, and remove the bolts securing the ATF cooler inlet line brackets (A) and the ATF dipstick guide pipe (B) from the transmission hanger (C).

  17. Remove the harness clamp (D), then remove the ATF dipstick guide pipe.
  18. Disconnect the shift solenoid harness connector.
  19. Remove the shift solenoid valve cover (A), the dowel pins (B), and the gasket (C).

    Terminal side of male terminals

  21. Measure the shift solenoid valves resistance between the following shift solenoid harness connector terminals and body ground:
    • No. 1 (GRN): Shift solenoid valve C
    • No. 2 (ORN): Shift solenoid valve B
    • No. 3 (RED): Shift solenoid valve E
    • No. 5 (BLU): Shift solenoid valve A
    • No. 8 (YEL): Shift solenoid valve D

    Standard: 12-25 Ω

  22. If the resistance is out of standard, disconnect the shift solenoid valve connector, and measure its resistance at the solenoid valve terminal. Replace the shift solenoid valve if the resistance is out of standard.
  23. Connect the battery negative terminal to body ground, and connect the battery positive terminal to the shift solenoid valve terminal individually. A clicking sound should be heard.
  24. If no sound is heard, connect the battery positive terminal to the shift solenoid valve terminal, and check for a clicking sound. Replace the shift solenoid valve if no clicking sound is heard.
  25. Replace the shift solenoid harness if the shift solenoid valve test results are OK.
  26. Install a new O-ring on the shift solenoid harness connector, and install the connector in the transmission housing.
  27. Install the shift solenoid valve cover, the dowel pins, and a new gasket.
  28. Install a new O-ring on the ATF dipstick guide pipe, and install the ATF dipstick guide pipe, then install the harness clamp on the ATF dipstick guide pipe.
  29. Secure the ATF cooler line brackets on the transmission hanger with the bolts.
  30. Check the connector for rust, dirt, or oil, then connect the connector securely.
  31. Install the transmission lower mount nuts.
  32. Install the transmission upper mount bracket, the bracket plate, and the ground cable, then remove the transmission jack.
  33. Refill the transmission with ATF (see step 4 on ATF REPLACEMENT  ).
  34. Install the battery base, then install the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct.
  35. Install the battery tray, the battery, and the battery cover, then secure the battery with its hold-down bracket.
  36. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals, then assemble them.
  37. Install the splash shield.
  38. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then enter the audio presets, and set the clock.
