Control Unit Input Test

  1. Remove the roof console (see FRONT INDIVIDUAL MAP LIGHT TEST ).
  2. Remove the roof console bezel (see step 7 in HEADLINER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  3. Disconnect the 22P connector (A) from the HandsFreeLink control unit (B).

  4. Inspect the connector and socket terminals for a good pin fit to be sure they are all making good contact.
    • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
    • If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.
  5. Reconnect the connector to the HandsFreeLink control unit, and make these input tests at the connector.
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, the HandsFreeLink control unit must be faulty; replace it.
    CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST

    Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained
    13 BLK Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground: There should be less than 1 V.
    • Poor ground (G551)
    • An open in the wire
    11 WHT/GRN Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
    • An open in the wire
    1 WHT/RED Ignition switch ACC (I) or ON (II) Check for voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 9 (15 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • Faulty accessory socket relay
    • An open in the wire
    12 BLK/BLU Ignition switch ON (II), shift lever in P position Check for voltage to ground: There should be less than 1 V.
    • Poor ground (G101, G102)
    • Faulty transmission range switch
    • An open in the wire
