TQI PROCEDURES

INSTALL THE FUSES

To prevent battery drain during vehicle shipment, these fuses are not installed at the factory.

  1. No. 7 Fuse: Power door locks (20 A)
  2. No. 19 Fuse: Backup, radio (7.5 A)
  3. No. 20 Fuse: Interior lights (20 A)

Remove them from the front ashtray, and install them in the under-hood fuse/relay box in the locations shown. See Fig 1 .

Fig 1: Fuse Installation Locations

DO THE IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE

To avoid an erratic idle, do the idle learn procedure after you install the fuses. Idle learn must also be done after you disconnect the battery or replace the PCM.

  1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, radio, rear window defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
  2. Start the engine, and let it reach operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
  3. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes.

INITIALIZE THE DRIVER'S WINDOW AUTO-UP/DOWN

The driver's window auto-up/down feature needs to be initialized at TQI and whenever the battery or window regulator is disconnected. To initialize the auto-up/down, do this:

  1. Make sure the driver's window is fully closed, then push and hold the window switch until the window opens all the way.
  2. Pull back the window switch, and hold it until the window is fully closed. Continue to hold the switch for another 2 seconds.

ACTIVATE THE XM(R) SATELLITE RADIO DEMO SERVICE

All models within the contiguous 48 states are equipped with XM Satellite Radio. During TQI, you need to activate the XM radio demo service. If you don't activate the service at TQI, the XM radio has only a preview capability. The new vehicle owner will need to return to your dealer to activate the service.

Here's how to activate the demo service:

  1. Park the vehicle outside, away from tall buildings or trees. Turn on the radio. If not already done, enter the radio anti-theft code, then press the SAT RADIO button. See Fig 2 .
Fig 2: SAT RADIO Button Location
    G00287667
  2. Turn the TUNE knob to channel "0," then write down the eight-digit XM radio ID number you see in the audio unit display. You need this XM radio ID number and the VIN to activate the demo service.
    NOTE:
    • If you cannot get to channel "0," switch from the "Category" mode to the "Channel" mode.
    • The ID number does not contain the letters I, O, S, or F.
  3. Turn the TUNE knob to 1 (channel 1 is the XM preview channel) to make sure you are receiving the XM signal. If not, move the vehicle to a different location with a clear view of the southern sky.
  4. Go to the iN workstation or the Tech Cart. From the main menu, click on the Service menu, then click on the Service Bay menu.
NOTE: If you don't have access to iN, call XM at (800) 852-9696. The moment you hear the XM automated menu, immediately enter the Acura priority code; your call will be routed to one of their agents. When the agent answers, ask for a rapid demo activation, then go to step 7.
  5. From the Service Bay menu, click on XM Radio Registration. This brings up the DEALER ACTIVATION REFRESH screen.
NOTE: If you cannot bring up this display, call the iN Support Center.
  6. On the DEALER ACTIVATION REFRESH screen, enter the 8-digit XM Radio ID number you wrote down in step 2. Then click on Submit. Once the ID number is recognized, you will see the ACTIVATION REFRESH screen.
NOTE: If you entered the ID number incorrectly, or if it is not recognized, an error display will appear. If this happens, follow the instructions on the error display.
  7. Make sure the radio is turned on and tuned to Channel 1, and wait for XM to send an activation signal to the audio unit.
NOTE: Once XM gets your activation request, an activation signal is sent immediately by the satellites. The signal is sent every 10 minutes for up to 2 hours. If you miss the activation window, you must repeat steps 4 thru 6.
  8. Check that you have received full activation by verifying you have channels 7, 9, 47, and 122.
  9. If you do not have these channels, repeat steps 4 thru 8.
    NOTE:
    • The dealer's demo service is good for 1 year or until the vehicle's retail delivery registration (RDR) is submitted. The dealer's demo service expires when the RDR is submitted.
    • After the vehicle is registered, the dealer's demo service changes to a customer account. The customer receives a 3-month trial service of all 100 XM radio channels. If the customer decides not to continue the service, the XM radio reverts to preview mode. The AM and FM part of the radio is not affected by the XM service.
    • XM radio uses satellites near the equator. To receive the strongest signal, especially during activation, there should be no obstructions south of the vehicle.
    • XM radio may lose reception when the vehicle is driven through tunnels, under overpasses, in parking garages, and near the southern faces of canyons and mountains.
    • To minimize reception loss, XM radio uses a buffer. If the reception loss lasts longer than the buffering period, the radio signal goes silent.
    • Because the XM radio signal is digital, any reception loss makes the signal go silent; the signal does not fade like a conventional radio.
    • If the XM radio receiver ever needs to be replaced, call XM at (800) 852-9696. Be prepared to give them your dealer number, the VIN, and the XM radio ID numbers from the printed label on the side of the old and the new receiver units.
    • Your customer's XM radio presets are lost if the battery is disconnected or goes dead. Make sure you write down the presets before disconnecting the battery.

INSTALL THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE COVER

The shift lock release cover is in a small bag in the owner's manual kit. Remove the cover from the bag, and install it into the shift lock release opening on the upper right side of the shifter. See Fig 3 .

PEEL OFF THE SWITCH AND BUTTON FILM

The faces of most dash switches and buttons are covered with a clear plastic film to protect them during vehicle assembly. Peel the film off at TQI. If you don't, sunlight and high interior temperatures will eventually discolor the film and cause it to stick.

REMOVE THE PARKING BRAKE SPACER AND TAG

Look for a spacer with an attached tag on the parking brake pedal. If you find the spacer, remove and discard it and the tag. See Fig 4 .

Fig 4: Parking Brake Spacer & Tag

DO THE ONSTAR SYSTEM CHECKS

NOTE: Before doing these procedures, you must complete all other TQI items. OnStar is operational from the factory, but the account is not set up until the vehicle is sold. These procedures check the system for faults, test the control functions and audio output, and perform a cellular telephone test call.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the Accessory (I) or ON (II) position.
NOTE: If you are in a basement or surrounded by tall buildings, you may need to park the vehicle outside, away from the buildings. This allows for a stronger signal, making it possible for the phone system to work when you are doing the system checks.
  2. Fault Check
    Look at the OnStar indicator.
NOTE: If the indicator is green (not blinking), but the system is not functioning as described in this bulletin, call OnStar dealer support at 1-888-667-8271.
    • If the indicator is green (not blinking), go to step 3.
    • If the indicator is blinking green, press the Call Answer/End Button once, turn the ignition switch off, and go back to step 1.
    • If the indicator is not illuminated or is red, see the service manual to diagnose and repair the system.
  3. Control Function/Audio Output Check
Turn on the radio, tune to an AM or FM station, and set the volume to a comfortable level.
  4. Press the blue OnStar button once; the indicator blinks green, and the system is active.
    • If the sound from the audio system mutes, and you hear an OnStar demonstration message through all of the audio system speakers, go to step 5.
    • If you do not hear the OnStar demonstration, see the service manual to diagnose and repair the system.
  5. Cellular Telephone Test Call
During the demonstration message, press the blue OnStar button; the indicator blinks green.
    • If the message stops and you hear "Connecting to . . . OnStar," go to step 6.
    • If you do not hear the "Connecting to . . . OnStar" message, or another message starts, see the service manual to diagnose and repair the system.
  6. Listen for a telephone ringing sound.
    • If you hear ringing, press the Call Answer/End button once to end the test call before the call is answered. After you have successfully completed this procedure, the OnStar system is fully functional and ready for delivery.
    • If you do not hear a ring, press the Call Answer/End button once to end the call. Repeat steps 3 thru 6.

INSTALL THE FRONT LICENSE PLATE HOLDER

The front license plate holder and mounting hardware are in the trunk. If state regulations require that a front license plate be installed, do this:

  1. Attach the bottom of the license plate holder to the bracket extending through the grille. Use the two 6 mm bolts. See Fig 5 .
Fig 5: Installing Front License Plate Holder
    G00287670
  2. Attach the top of the license plate holder directly to the bumper with the two 6 mm self-tapping screws.

INSTALL THE MUD GUARDS

Remove the four mud guards from the trunk, and install them on the vehicle. See Fig 6 .

Fig 6: Installing Mud Guards

CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE

To prevent flat spots during shipping and storage, the tires are inflated to 40 to 50 psi. Adjust the front and rear cold tire pressures to 30 psi.

NEW MODEL INFORMATION

INSTALLING ACCESSORIES

To avoid setting false DTCs, write down the radio station presets and disconnect the battery before you install any electrical accessories. After you install an electrical accessory, do the idle learn procedure and initialize the driver's window auto-up/down. Also, enter the navigation system and audio unit anti-theft codes, enter the radio station presets, and set the clock.

DRIVER'S POWER LUMBAR SUPPORT

The rear switch on the left side of the driver's seat cushion controls the lumbar adjustment. To increase lumbar support, press the front of the switch; to decrease support, press the rear of the switch.

CENTER ARMREST PAD

The center armrest pad has a tray underneath. The tray can store small items like a cell phone and business cards. To access the tray, lift the armrest pad toward the front passenger's seat. See Fig 8 .
