DTC P1163: Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Slow Response (Sensor 1)

If DTC P1162 is stored at same time as DTC P1163, troubleshoot first, then recheck for DTC P1163.

1. Perform ECM/PCM reset procedure. See ECM/PCM RESET PROCEDURE/CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
2. Start engine and hold at 3000 RPM, with no load (in park or neutral), until cooling fan comes on. Test-drive under following conditions:
   • 55 MPH steady speed
   • A/T in "D4" position (M/T in 5th gear)
   • Until readiness code or temporary DTC P1163 and/or P1163 comes on
3. Check for temporary DTC P1163 with scan tool. If temporary DTC P1163 and/or P1163 is set, replace A/F sensor. If DTC is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connection(s) or loose wire(s) between Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor 4-pin harness connector and Gray ECM/PCM 31-pin "A" harness connector. See Figure .
