Shift Cable

WARNING: Ensure lifts, jacks, and safety stands are placed properly. Apply the parking brake, and block the rear wheels so the vehicle will not roll off the stands.
  1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands.
  2. Set the parking brake, and block both rear wheels securely.
  3. Shift the transaxle into the Neutral position.
  4. CAUTION: When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damages.
    NOTE: Take care not to scratch the console panel, front seat, and related parts.
  5. Remove the center console. See Figure .
  6. Shift the transaxle into the "1" position.
  7. CAUTION: Take care not to bend the shift cable.
  8. Remove the self-locking nut and shift cable end collar, then remove the shift cable from the shift lever link. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . SeeFig 1 .
  9. NOTE: The secondary H02S connector is located under the passenger's seat.
  10. Pull the carpet back to expose the secondary H02S connector. Disconnect the connector, then push it to outside.
  11. Remove the exhaust pipe "A" bracket, then remove exhaust pipe "A". See Fig 2 .
  12. Remove the secondary H02S harness cover, then remove the three way catalytic converter.
  13. Remove the heat shields. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  See Fig 3 .
  14. CAUTION: Take care not to bend the shift cable.
  15. Remove the shift cable bracket. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  See Fig 4 .
  16. Remove the shift cable guide bracket. See Fig 5 .
  17. Remove the shift cable cover mounting bolts. See Fig 6 .
  18. Remove the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness connector and clamp from the shift cable cover.
  19. Remove the shift cable cover from the transaxle housing.
  20. Remove the shift cable holder with the shift cable from the shift cable holder base.
  21. Remove the control lever from the control shaft, then remove the shift cable.
  22. Remove the shift cable holder from the shift cable.
  23. CAUTION: Take care not to bend the shift cable when installing it.
  24. Install the new shift cable in the reverse order of removal.
  25. Check the shift lever operation after installation.
  26. If shift lever adjustment is required, remove the center console and adjust the link adjuster. See SHIFT CONTROL CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
