INTRODUCTION
This service bulletin addresses hardware updates and changes to the warranty terms for the MVCI unit and the accessories that come with it.
MVCI Unit (no separate reorder number)
SPX Service Solutions, the manufacturer of the MVCI, has seen some cases of electrostatic discharge in MVCI units using the USB cable, which resulted in damage to the MVCI.
Therefore, SPX has extended the MVCI unit warranty (for the electrostatic discharge issue only) to 72 months from the date of purchase for MVCIs shipped through September 20, 2011.
New MVCIs shipped after September 20, 2011, have been updated to prevent this problem, and the normal 60-month warranty applies.
MVCI OBD-11 16P (DLC cable), P/N OTC382532
The MVCI OBD-II 16P (DLC cable) was upgraded in December 2011 with a more robust 16-pin DLC connector. The newer cable, P/N OTC 382532B, is warranted for 12 months from the date of purchase.
Also, the warranty for the original DLC cable was extended from 12 months to 24 months from the date of purchase. If you purchased a replacement DLC cable (P/N OTC 382532) because your original DLC cable failed outside of the original 12-month warranty, you will receive credit for that purchase within the next 60 days. In addition, the replacement cable is warranted for 24 months. If you purchased a cable and believe you have not received credit, contact the Acura Tool and Equipment Program at 1-888-424-6857.
MVCI SD Wireless Card, P/N OTCH556775
On January 5, 2012, a Wireless Update Card Kit was shipped free of charge to dealers who purchased MVCIs prior to October 1, 2011. This kit improves the wireless range capabilities of the MVCI. The new Clarity Design card, model No. 5006, is black in color with a metallic sticker applied to it. This card is longer than the original Socket Go card (blue) and requires a new retainer clip, which is included in the kit.
For MVCIs purchased after October 1, 2011, a Metallic Sticker Kit was shipped free of charge on January 12, 2012. Once applied to the Clarity Design card, this sticker improves the wireless range capabilities of the MVCI.
