SYMPTOM
The client may "feel" the release of the throttle plate through the accelerator pedal. Some describe it as a "pop" sensation.
This sensation may be felt when:
- The client first presses the accelerator pedal after a cold start.
- The client attempts to press the accelerator pedal after a quick release of the pedal from wide-open throttle.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Primarily in coastal regions, carbon and salt deposits accumulate on the Molykote(r) in the throttle bore.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install a new throttle body and gasket.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
- Replace the throttle body and gasket:
- Refer to Page 11-141 of the 2001-02 MDX Service Manual.
- Refer to Page 11-202 of the 2001-03 3.2 CL Service Manual.
- Refer to Page 11-189 of the 1999-2003 3.2 TL Service Manual.
- In ISIS, enter the keyword THROTTLE BODY, and select Throttle Body Removal/Installation from the list.
- Do the idle learn procedure:
- Make sure all of the electrical items (A/C, audio unit, window defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
- Start the engine, and let it reach normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
- Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.
