Description & Operation
Immobilizer system is designed to disable vehicle when an incorrect ignition key is used. Immobilizer system consists of a transponder located in ignition key, immobilizer receiver, immobilizer indicator light and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See Figure .
When key is inserted into ignition switch and turned to ON (II) position, immobilizer receiver sends power to transponder in ignition key. Transponder sends a coded signal back through immobilizer receiver to the PCM. If the proper key was used, immobilizer indicator light will illuminate for 2 seconds, then go off. If key with an incorrect code or code was not received or recognized by the immobilizer receiver, indicator light will illuminate for 2 seconds, then blink until ignition switch is turned off. If ignition switch is turned off, indicator will blink for about 5 seconds to signal that immobilizer receiver has been set correctly, and then go off.
