SYMPTOM TROUBLE SHOOTING INDEX

Symptom Perform Test
Radiator fan does not run at all, but condenser fan runs with A/C ON or when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C). See RADIATOR FAN CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "A"  .
Both radiator fan and condenser fan do not run with A/C ON and when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C). See RADIATOR & CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "B"  .
Condenser fan runs but radiator fan does not run when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C), but both fans run with A/C ON. Remove the radiator fan control relay, and test. See FAN RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS.
  • If the relay is faulty, replace it.
  • If the relay is OK, repair a short in the wire between the radiator fan control relay 5-pin connector, terminal No. 4 and the radiator fan motor 2-pin connector, terminal No. 2.
Both radiator fan and condenser fan do not run when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C), but both fans run with A/C ON. See RADIATOR & CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "C"  .
Both radiator and condenser fans do not run when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C), but radiator fan runs with A/C ON. See RADIATOR & CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "D"  .
Both radiator fan and condenser fan run with ignition switch ON, with A/C OFF, and when the engine coolant temperature is below 199°F (93°C). See RADIATOR & CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "E"  .
Both radiator fan and condenser fan do not run at high speed with the A/C ON. See SYMPTOM TESTS in appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article.
Both radiator fan speed and condenser fan speed do not change from Low to Hi when the engine coolant temperature 210°F (99°C), but both fan's seed change with A/C ON. See RADIATOR & CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "F"  .
Condenser fan speed does not change from Low to Hi with A/C ON and the engine coolant temperature above 210°F (99°C). See SYMPTOM TESTS in appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article.
