Oil Pressure

Ensure there is adequate oil in engine. Remove oil pressure sending unit. Install mechanical oil pressure gauge. Install tachometer. Start engine. Turn engine off if gauge does not register any oil pressure. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature (cooling fan will operate at least 2 times). With engine temperature at about 176°F (80°C), oil pressure at idle should be 10 psi (70 kPa). Oil pressure at 3000 RPM should be 71 psi (490 kPa). If oil pressure is as specified, replace oil pressure switch. If oil pressure is not as specified, inspect oil pump. See appropriate 3.2L article in ENGINES.
