Road Test
NOTE:
If gearshift lever cannot be moved from "P" position with brake pedal depressed and accelerator pedal at idle position, check shift interlock system. See appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article.
- Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Apply parking brake and block wheels. Start engine. Move gearshift lever to "D4" position while depressing brake pedal. Depress accelerator pedal and release it suddenly. Engine should not stall.
- With gearshift lever in "D3" position, repeat step 1 . Ensure engine does not stall.
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove door sill molding and lower dash panel on passenger's side. Remove small cover on passenger's side kick panel. Pull carpet back for access to PCM. Remove PCM cover.
- Install Backprobe Test Set (07SAZ-001000A) or equivalent between PCM harness connector and DVOM leads. See Fig 1 . Set DVOM to measure voltage. Connect DVOM positive lead to PCM harness connector terminal D6 and negative lead to terminal A26. See Fig 1 .
- Road test vehicle and check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage. See CLUTCH APPLICATION under TROUBLE SHOOTING for clutch engagement.
- Ensure upshift and downshift points and torque converter lock-up are correct in relation to throttle position sensor voltage or throttle opening and vehicle speed with gearshift lever in "D4" and "D3" position. See TRANSAXLE UPSHIFT SPECIFICATIONS , TRANSAXLE DOWNSHIFT SPECIFICATIONS and TRANSAXLE LOCK-UP SPECIFICATIONS tables.
- With gearshift lever in "D4" position, accelerate to about 35 MPH so transaxle is in 4th gear. Move gearshift lever to "2" position. Ensure engine braking occurs.
- Place gearshift lever in "1" position. Accelerate from a stop at full throttle. Check for abnormal noise or clutch slippage. Upshifts and downshifts should not occur in this gearshift lever position.
- Place gearshift lever in "2" position. Accelerate from a stop at full throttle. Check for abnormal noise or clutch slippage. Upshifts and downshifts should not occur in this gearshift lever position.
- Place gearshift lever in "R" position. Accelerate from a stop at full throttle. Check for abnormal noise or clutch slippage.
- Park vehicle on a slope. Apply parking brake. Place gearshift lever in "P" position. Release parking brake. Ensure vehicle does not move. If vehicle moves, check for defective shift cable or parking components.
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove test harness and reinstall electrical connectors, PCM cover, carpet and door sill molding.
NOTE:
Manufacturer recommends monitoring Throttle Position (TP) sensor voltage when performing road test to ensure proper throttle opening for verifying shift points and torque converter lock-up.
CAUTION:
DO NOT shift from "D4" or "D3" to "2" or "1" at speeds over 62 MPH, or transaxle may be damaged.
