Cruise Control Cable Adjustment

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Acura MDX and 2001 Acura MDX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure cruise control cable moves smoothly with no binding. Start engine and run at 3000 RPM, with all accessories off, until radiator fan comes on. Allow engine to idle.
  2. At first, linkage should be located at fully closed position. Measure amount of movement of output linkage necessary to cause engine speed starts to increase. Check free play at point "A". See Fig 1. Free play should be .13-.17" (3.25-4.25 mm).
  3. If free play is not within specified range, move cable until engine speed starts to increase. Loosen lock nut and adjusting nut. Turn adjusting nut until nut is .13-.17" (3.25-4.25 mm) away from cable bracket. Pull cable until adjusting nut touches bracket, then tighten lock nut.
