Set/Resume/Cancel Switch Test

  1. Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove steering column covers. Disconnect 4-pin harness connector from cable reel. See Fig 1 .
  2. With SET button in ON position, continuity should exist between cable reel terminals B2 and B4. With RESUME button in ON position, continuity should exist between cable reel 4-pin connector terminals B2 and B3. With CANCEL button in ON position, check for continuity by probing cable reel 4-pin harness connector terminal B2 with positive terminal of DVOM, and terminals B3 and B4 with negative terminal of DVOM. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step  5 .
  3. Remove instrument panel lower cover and knee bolster. Disconnect cruise control unit 14-pin harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity in Light Green/Black wire between terminal B3 of cable reel 4-pin harness connector and terminal No. 7 of cruise control unit 14-pin harness connector. Also check for continuity in Light Green/Red wire between terminal B4 of SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch 4-pin harness connector and terminal No. 6 of cruise control unit 14-pin harness connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Green/Black or Light Green/Red wire between 4-pin cable reel harness connector and 14-pin cruise control unit harness connector.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and terminal B2 (Light Green/Blue wire) of cable reel 4-pin harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, Measure voltage between fuse No. 47 (20-amp), horn relay and terminal A11 of underhood fuse/relay box. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in underhood fuse/relay box between fuse No. 47 (20-amp), horn relay and terminal A11. If battery voltage exists, repair open in Light Green/Blue wire between terminal B2 of cable reel and terminal A11 of underhood fuse/relay box. See Fig 1 .
  5. Remove SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch. See SET/RESUME/CANCEL SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. With SET button in ON position, continuity should exist between SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch connector terminals No. 1 and 3. See Fig 1 . With RESUME button in ON position, continuity should exist between SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch connector terminals No. 1 and 2. With CANCEL button in ON position, continuity should exist between terminals No. 1 and 2, and between terminals No. 1 and 3. If continuity is as specified, reassemble all switches and connectors and retest. If continuity is not as specified, replace SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch.
