Navigation Systems: Description
Navigation system is a highly sophisticated, hybrid location system that uses satellites and a map database to give current location and help guide driver to another location. System consists of a navigation unit, vehicle speed sensor, Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna, and a display unit. System receives signals from GPS, a network of 24 satellites in orbit around earth. Navigation system determines latitude and longitude of vehicle based on information received from the GPS. Along with information from vehicle's yaw rate sensor, and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), the navigation unit can keep track of vehicle's direction and rate of travel by applying this information to map database and can calculate a route to a destination entered. A visual and audio guidance is provided.
