Anti-Theft & Keyless Entry Systems: Description
WARNING:
Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
The anti-theft alarm system is activated automatically 15 seconds after doors, hood and trunk have been closed and locked. The anti-theft (security alarm) system indicator light, located on driver's side door, will flash after system is armed. See Figure . If any of the conditions listed below occur, the engine starter circuit will be interrupted, the siren (alarm) will sound, the headlights, side marker lights, parking lights and taillights will flash repeatedly for approximately 2 minutes, or until the system is disarmed by unlocking either door from the outside with the key, when trunk is opened with key, or when key is put into ignition.
- Door is forcibly opened.
- Trunk is opened without a key.
- Hood is opened.
- Battery terminals are removed and reconnected.
- Hood/trunk opener in vehicle is operated.
- Engine starter circuit and battery circuit are by-passed by breaking ignition switch.
