Manual Transmission
- Check fuse No. 4 (7.5-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) 3-pin connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in black wire between VSS and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Reconnect VSS connector. Using a DVOM, backprobe for voltage between terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Black/Yellow wire) at VSS connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between VSS and underdash fuse/relay box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Using a DVOM, backprobe for voltage between terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 3 (Blue/White wire, Orange wire at PCM connector). If reading is 5 volts or greater, go to next step. If reading is less than 5 volts, repair short to ground in Blue/White wire or Orange wire between VSS, PCM and cruise control. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- With connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3 still connected, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Raise one front wheel off ground and support. Place vehicle shifter in "N" (neutral) position. Rotate elevated wheel and monitor DVOM reading. If reading varies between zero and 5 volts, go to next step. If reading does not vary between zero and 5 volts, replace VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect 16-pin connector "C" from instrument cluster. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector "C" terminal No. 12. Rotate elevated wheel and monitor DVOM readings. If reading varies between zero and 5 volts, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If reading does not vary between zero and 5 volts, repair open in Blue/White wire (Orange wire at PCM) between VSS, and speedometer.
