Fuel Gauge Test
- Check fuse No. 1 (10-amp) located in underdash fuse/relay box in left kick panel. Remove trunk floor panel and carpet. Remove fuel tank access cover located on right front of fuel tank. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect 3-pin fuel gauge sending unit connector.
- Connect voltmeter negative lead to 3-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). Connect voltmeter positive lead to 3-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position and measure voltage. If voltage is 5-8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 5-8 volts, check for poor connections or open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuel gauge and fuel gauge sending unit. Check for poor connections or open in Black wire between fuel gauge sending unit and ground connection. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair as necessary.CAUTION: Turn ignition switch OFF before fuel gauge pointer reaches "F" mark or gauge may be damaged. Fuel gauge can also be damaged if battery voltage is applied directly to gauge terminals.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect a fused jumper wire between fuel gauge sending unit 3-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If fuel gauge pointer does not move toward "F" mark on gauge, replace fuel gauge. If fuel gauge pointer moves toward "F" mark on gauge, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Gauge is operating properly. Check fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST .
