Description & Operation

Each axle shaft consists of a shaft with a Constant Velocity (CV) joint at each end. See Fig 1. Outer CV joint is splined to hub assembly and secured by a spindle nut. Inner CV joint is either splined to transaxle or slides onto intermediate shaft, which is splined to transaxle. Inner and outer CV joints are enclosed by boots. Inner CV joints can be repaired. Outer CV joints can be serviced only as an assembly. On some Integra, 2.2CL, 2.3CL and 2.5TL models, a dynamic damper may be used to reduce vibration. See DYNAMIC DAMPER  under REMOVAL, DISASSEMBLY, REASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION.

Circlips and Stopper rings retain axle shaft in both inner and outer CV joints. A set ring retains inner CV joint stub in differential side gear or intermediate shaft. Outer CV joint stub is splined into wheel hub, and secured by a spindle nut.
