BRAKELIGHT Switch Test

  1. Disconnect connector from brakelight switch. Check for continuity between switch terminals No. 1 and 4. See Fig 1 . Continuity should not exist. Check for continuity between switch terminals No. 2 and 3. Continuity should exist.
  2. Press and hold brake pedal. Check for continuity between switch terminals. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 1 and 4. Continuity should not exist between terminals No. 2 and 3. See Fig 1 . If continuity is as specified, go to next step. Replace switch if continuity is not as specified.
  3. Release brake pedal. Check for continuity between switch terminals. Continuity should not exist between terminals No. 1 and 4. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 2 and 3. If continuity is as specified, switch is okay. If continuity is not as specified, check brake pedal height. See BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT  under ADJUSTMENTS. If brake pedal height is okay, replace brakelight switch.
