Oil Pressure Sending Unit Test

Ensure there is adequate oil in engine. Remove oil pressure sending unit. Install mechanical oil pressure gauge. Start engine. Turn engine off if gauge does not register any oil pressure. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature (cooling fan will operate at least 2 times). With engine temperature at about 176°F (80°C), oil pressure at idle should be 10 psi (69 kPa). Oil pressure at 3000 RPM should be 50 psi (345 kPa). If oil pressure is as specified, replace oil pressure sending unit. If oil pressure is not as specified, inspect oil pump.
