Shift Interlock
Battery voltage is supplied at all times through the BRAKE LIGHTS/HORN FUSE 45 (20-amp) to the brake switch. With the ignition in ON (II) or START (III) position, battery voltage is supplied through FUSE 5 (10-amp) to the shift lock solenoid. When brake pedal is pushed, battery voltage is applied through the Green/White wire to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). When the accelerator pedal is NOT pressed, a low voltage signal is sent through the Red/Yellow or Blue wire to the TCM.
When brake pedal is pushed with the accelerator released, the TCM shift lock relay control terminal applies voltage through the Orange/Black wire to the shift lock relay in the interlock control unit. If the A/T gear position switch is in Park, the relay is energized and the contacts close, energizing the shift lock solenoid and allowing the shift lever to be moved from Park. If the interlock system is malfunctioning, the shift lever can be released manually. Ensure the parking brake is set and insert the key into the shift lock release slot next to the parking brake lever. Push down on the key while pressing the shift release button on the shifter and move the shifter to NEUTRAL. See Fig 1 .
