Self-Diagnostic Function

Since ABS modulates braking pressure when a wheel is about to lock, regardless of driver's intention, the system operation and braking power will be impaired if there is a malfunction in the system. To prevent this possibility, at speeds above 10 km/h (6 mph), self diagnosis function monitors main system functions. When an abnormality is detected, ABS indicator light illuminates. There is also a check mode of self-diagnosis system itself; when ignition switch is first turned on, ABS indicator light illuminates and stays on for a few seconds after engine starts, to signify self-diagnosis system is functional.
