DTC P1706 (Flash Code 6): A/T Gear Position Switch (Open)

  1. Turn ignition on. If any A/T gear position indicator light stays on when gear selector is moved from that gear, go to next step. If all A/T gear position indicator lights go off when gear selector is moved from that gear, system is okay at this time.
  2. Shift to reverse. Using DVOM, measure voltage between TCM 26-pin connector "A" terminals No. 13 or No. 26 (Brown/Black wires) and No. 11 (Green/Red wire). See Figure and Figure . If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check and repair open in Green/Red wire between TCM 26-pin connector "A" and A/T gear position switch.
  3. Shift to Neutral or Park. Measure voltage between TCM 26-pin connector "A" terminals No. 13 or No. 26 (Brown/Black wires) and No. 10 (Light Green/Black wire). If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check and repair open in Light Green/Black wire between TCM 26-pin connector "A" and A/T gear position indicator.
  4. Shift to "D(4)" position. Measure voltage between TCM 26-pin connector "A" terminals No. 13 or No. 26 (Brown/Black wires) and No. 9 (Pink/Green wire). If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check and repair open in Pink/Green wire between TCM 26-pin connector "A" and A/T gear position switch.
  5. Shift to "D(3)" position. Measure voltage between TCM 26-pin connector "A" terminals No. 13 or No. 26 (Brown/Black wires) and No. 8 (Green/Blue wire). If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check and repair open in Green/Blue wire between TCM 26-pin connector "A" and A/T gear position switch.
  6. Shift to "2" position. Measure voltage between TCM 26-pin connector "A" terminals No. 13 or No. 26 (Brown/Black wires) and No. 7 (Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check and repair open in Green/Yellow wire between TCM 26-pin connector "A" and A/T gear position switch.
  7. Shift to "1" position. Measure voltage between TCM 26-pin connector "A" terminals No. 13 or No. 26 (Brown/Black wires) and No. 6 (Light Green/White wire). If voltage is not present, check for loose TCM connectors and replace TCM with known good part, as necessary. If voltage is present, check and repair open in Light Green/White wire between TCM 26-pin connector "A" and A/T gear position switch.
