Linear Solenoid

  1. Linear solenoid is located on throttle valve body. Disconnect transaxle sub-harness connector. See Fig 1 .
  2. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 7 (Red wire) and terminal No. 8 (White wire).
  3. Resistance should be 4-6 ohms at 70°F (20°C). If resistance is not within specification, remove shift cable cover. Disconnect linear solenoid connector from transaxle sub-harness at the transaxle. Note terminal identification on linear solenoid connector.
  4. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal "C" (Red wire) and terminal "D" (White wire) of linear solenoid connector.
  5. Resistance should be 4-6 ohms at 70°F (20°C). If resistance is okay, replace transaxle sub-harness. Replace linear solenoid if resistance is not within specification.
  6. To check linear solenoid operation, connect positive battery terminal to terminal "C" and negative battery terminal to terminal "D" of linear solenoid connector.
  7. Clicking sound should be heard, indicating linear solenoid operation. Replace linear solenoid if solenoid fails to operate.
NOTE: Linear solenoid and throttle valve body must be replaced as an assembly.
