Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

  1. Engine coolant temperature sensor is located in coolant pipe, near throttle body and contains a Red/White wire and Green/White wire in the electrical connector. See Figure .
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from engine coolant temperature sensor. Using ohmmeter, check engine coolant temperature sensor resistance in accordance with engine coolant temperature. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. Replace engine coolant temperature sensor if resistance is not as specified.
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR RESISTANCE

Temperature °F (°C) Resistance (1) In Ohms
-4 (-20) 15,000-18,000
68 (20) 2500-3500
175 (80) 400-600
212 (100) 250-350
(1) Measure resistance across sensor terminals.
