Code 6-1: Front Fail-Safe Relay Circuit

  1. Check ABS fuses. Remove front fail-safe relay. Test relay and replace if necessary. See RELAY TEST under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If relay is okay, turn ignition on.
  2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between Black/Yellow wire terminal of fail-safe relay and ground. If battery voltage does not exists, repair open Black/Yellow wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect 10-pin connector from solenoid. Check continuity between Brown/Black wire terminal of fail-safe relay and ground. If continuity exists, repair shorted Brown/Black wire. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Remove rear fail-safe relay. Check continuity of following wires between solenoid and ground: Brown/Black wire and Brown/Blue wire. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity exists, solenoid is shorted. Replace modulator.
  5. Disconnect 18-pin and 12-pin connectors from control unit. Check continuity of following wires between control unit and ground: Red/Black wire, Yellow/Black wire, Red/Blue wire and Yellow/Blue wire. If continuity exists, replace shorted wire(s) between solenoid and control unit.
  6. If continuity does not exist, check continuity between Yellow/Green wire terminal of 18-pin connector and ground. If continuity exists, repair shorted Yellow/Green wire between control unit and front fail-safe relay.
  7. If continuity does not exist, reinstall front fail-safe relay. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage between Yellow/Green wire terminal of control unit and ground. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Yellow/Green wire between front fail-safe relay and control unit.
  8. If battery voltage exists, check for loose control unit connectors. If connections are okay, install a known-good control unit and retest.
