Key Interlock Solenoid

  1. Remove lower cover and knee bolster from driver's side of instrument panel for access to key interlock solenoid 7-pin electrical connector. See Fig 1 .
  2. Disconnect key interlock solenoid 7-pin electrical connector from main wiring harness. Note electrical connector terminal identification.
  3. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between designated terminals with ignition lock assembly in ACC position. Refer to the KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. If continuity is as specified, proceed to next step. Replace ignition lock assembly if continuity is not as specified. Key interlock solenoid cannot be serviced separately.
  5. Connect battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 6 and 7. Ensure ignition key cannot be removed with battery voltage applied.
  6. If ignition key cannot be removed, key interlock solenoid is okay. If ignition key can be removed, replace ignition lock assembly. Key interlock solenoid cannot be serviced separately.
