Steering Column Assembly: Removal
- Deactivate air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD .
- Remove pinch bolt from lower steering joint in engine compartment. Remove courtesy light control switch from lower dashboard panel. Remove lower dashboard panel. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.CAUTION: DO NOT disconnect cable reel connector and SRS wiring harness.
- Remove steering joint cover. Without unplugging connector, remove cable reel box from underneath steering column, and place it aside on floor. See Fig 1 . Remove clip. Remove cable reel, turn signal canceling sleeve, and combination switch from column assembly, and place them aside on floor.
- Unplug ignition switch connector from underdash fuse box. Remove steering column mounting bolts/nuts. Carefully remove steering column assembly.
