Component Disassembly & Reassembly: Countershaft: Inspection

  1. Inspect all parts for damage and wear, replace if necessary. Clean all parts in solvent; dry and lubricate all parts. 3rd/4th and 5th gears should be installed with a press before lubricating them.
  2. Measure countershaft at points "A", "B" and "C". See Figure . Use dial indicator to measure runout. Rotate countershaft 2 complete revolutions. Replace countershaft if runout or any part is not within service limit. See COUNTERSHAFT BEARING SURFACE SPECIFICATIONS table.

(1) "A", "B" and "C" refer to measuring points indicated in Fig. Figure .
CAUTION: Use a press to install 4th and 5th gears. DO NOT exceed a maximum of 5733 lbs. pressure while supporting countershaft on blocks. Lubricate all parts only after countershaft is reassembled.
