Fitting Pistons

- Using a feeler gauge, measure clearance between piston and cylinder bore. If clearance is near or exceeds 0.002" (0.05 mm), measure each piston and cylinder. Piston clearance is difference between cylinder bore and piston diameter. If piston clearance exceeds service limit, rebore cylinder and install oversize piston. New piston-to-bore clearance is .0004-.0014" (.010-.035 mm).
- Remove all rings from piston. Clean piston thoroughly. Inspect piston for damage. Measure piston diameter at a point 0.6" (15 mm) from bottom of piston skirt. If diameter is not within specification, replace piston. See PISTON DIAMETERS table. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
