Transmission Reassembly
- Install components in reverse order of disassembly. See Figure
. Install secondary gear assembly. Install mainshaft, countershaft and shift forks as one assembly. Install change holder and reverse shift holder. Apply liquid gasket to mating surface of clutch housing. Install housing. Follow tightening sequence. See Fig 1
. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
table.NOTE: This transmission uses no gasket between major housings; use Honda Genuine Liquid Gasket (08178-0001). Assemble housing within 20 minutes after applying liquid gasket. Allow 30 minutes curing time before filling with oil.
- Install all detent balls, springs, bolts. Install 5th gear components in reverse order of disassembly. Install new lock nut and stake lock nut tab into shaft groove.
- Apply liquid gasket to mating surface of housing. Ensure finger of ring brake stopper is aligned with cover. Through opening in cover, hold snap ring expanded and set snap ring in groove of mainshaft bearing while lowering cover into position. Install cover. Install back-up light switch. Ensure snap ring is securely seated in groove of countershaft bearing. Snap ring opening clearance should be .118-.315" (3.0-8.0 mm). Follow tightening sequence. See Fig 1 .
