Removal (Legend)
- Deactivate air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM (LEGEND). Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Remove pinch bolt from lower steering joint (in engine compartment). Remove courtesy light control switch from lower dashboard panel. Remove lower dashboard panel. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.CAUTION: DO NOT disconnect cable reel connector and SRS wiring harness.
- Remove steering joint cover. See Figure. Without removing connector, remove cable reel box from underneath steering column, and place aside on floor. See Fig 1. Remove clip. Remove cable reel, turn signal canceling sleeve and combination switch from column assembly, and place aside on floor.
- Disconnect ignition switch connector from underdash fuse box. Remove steering column mounting bolts/nuts. Carefully remove steering column assembly.
