SERVICE INFORMATION
To deter vehicle theft, more and more Acuras will come with their major components marked with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Original parts will have self-adhesive labels or labels attached with a break-off bolt. Replacement engine and transmission parts will be stamped with a code for spare parts. Replacement body parts will have a generic self-adhesive label. See Fig 1 .
A list of the marked components and the label locations are shown in the applicable S/M's. For example, take a look at page 1-11 in the 1996 Integra S/M.
To comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Standard, make sure the labels remain attached and legible. When replacing a marked part, be careful not to damage the label.
- When welding, avoid prolonged heat near the label.
- When cleaning, keep paint thinner and other solvents away from the label.
- Before painting, mask the label, and uncover the label when painting is completed.
