CHARGING SYSTEM TESTING

Model(s): 1986-92 Acura Vehicles

Group: Electrical

Bulletin No.: 92-003

Date: February, 1992

SERVICE INFORMATION

Charging system tests have been revised. If service is required use the following procedures and specifications.

NOTE: The alternator output amperage specifications are lower than previous alternator ratings and specifications. This takes into account the effects of temperature on alternator output, and the placement of the inductive pick-up, which only allows the tester to read the current available to charge the battery, not the current used to operate the ignition and fuel systems.

SYMPTOM

The charge system light is on, or the battery is dead or low.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Perform the following tests in the order listed.

  1. Battery Test (see S/B 88-016, "Battery Test Procedure")
  2. Charge System Light Operation. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
  3. Alternator/Regulator Test. See Fig 3 and Fig 4 .
  4. Parasitic Draw Test. See Fig 5 and Fig 6 .
