- Check for blown 15-amp fuse No. 13 (7.5 amps on coupe models) in underdash fuse box. Remove access cover in luggage compartment area. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect 3-pin connector from sending unit.
- Using voltmeter, connect positive lead to Yellow/White wire terminal and negative lead to Black wire terminal. Turn ignition on and observe voltmeter. Voltage should be 5-8 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to step 3). If voltage is not as specified. Check for poor ground, or open in Yellow, Yellow/White or Black wire.
- Turn ignition off. Attach a jumper wire between Yellow/White wire and Black wire terminals. Turn ignition on. Fuel gauge needle should move toward "F" mark on gauge. Turn ignition off within 5 seconds or before gauge needle reaches "F" mark. Failure to turn ignition off before needle reaches "F" mark may damage fuel gauge.
- Replace fuel gauge if needle does not move. If gauge tests okay, test fuel gauge sending unit.
