Throttle Angle Sensor

  1. Disconnect 3-pin connector from throttle angle sensor on intake throttle body. Turn ignition on, and measure voltage between Yellow/White (positive) and Green (negative) wire terminals.
  2. If voltage is not about 5 volts, measure voltage between Yellow/White (positive) terminal and ground. If voltage is about 5 volts, repair open in Green wire between ECU terminal C12 and throttle angle sensor.
  3. If voltage is about 5 volts, turn ignition off. Reconnect 3-pin connector at throttle angle sensor. Connect PGM-FI test harness connector between ECU and ECU wire harness. Using a hand-held vacuum pump, apply vacuum to dashpot diaphragm to hold diaphragm in retract position.
  4. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between PGM-FI test harness connector terminals C7 (positive) and C12 (negative). Voltage should be about .3 volt with throttle valve at full-closed position and 4.5 volts with throttle valve at full-open position. As throttle opens, voltage should change smoothly from .3 volt to 4.5 volts.
  5. If voltage is not as specified, check for short or open in Red/Blue wire between ECU terminal C7 and throttle angle sensor. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace throttle angle sensor.
NOTE: The following tests can only be performed with PGM-FI Test Harness (07999-PD60000A ). Terminals on PGM-FI test harness connectors match terminals on ECU and ECU connectors. This allows the technician to test continuity of specified wires and resistance of devices when the ECU is disconnected. When ECU is connected to PGM-FI test harness, sensor input values can be monitored (at the test connector terminals) while engine is in operation. To identify ECU terminals, See Figure .
