Component Testing: Relays

  1. Basic operation of relays used for A/C compressor, cooling fans are similar although physical appearance may be different.
  2. Remove relay to be tested. See Fig 1. Connect an ohmmeter to relay terminals "A" and "B". See Fig 2. Apply battery voltage and ground to relay terminals "C" and "D". Continuity between terminals "A" and "B" should exist only when battery voltage is applied to terminals "C" and "D". If relay DOES NOT operate as indicated, replace appropriate faulty relay.
