Low Speed Assist

  1. Check fluid level and belt tension. Start engine and let idle. Turn steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times to warm fluid. Attach a spring tension scale to steering wheel at outer end of spoke.
  2. Ensure vehicle is on a clean dry surface. With engine at idle, pull on tension scale until tires begin to turn. Reading should be no more than 7.1 lbs. (3.2 kg.).
  3. If reading is higher than specified, stop engine and disconnect the hose between control unit and speed sensor at the sensor. Plug hose and sensor fitting.
  4. Start engine and let idle. Measure pull as described above. If scale readings are to specification, replace speed sensor. If readings are still high, check the steering rack assembly.
