Ignition Timing: 2.7L

Check ignition timing with engine at normal operating temperature. At idle speed, Red mark should align with pointer. If Red mark is not aligned with pointer, set timing to specification. See 2.7L IGNITION TIMING table.

Ignition timing is adjusted by turning adjusting screw on ignition timing adjuster in control box. See Fig 2 . Remove control box upper cover and ignition timing adjuster from control box.

Using a 3/16" drill bit, drill heads of 2 rivets and remove stay cover. Use care to prevent damage to adjuster. Adjust timing by turning adjusting screw on adjuster counterclockwise to retard or clockwise to advance ignition timing. See Fig 3 .

After adjusting to specification, reinstall stay cover to ignition timing adjuster with new rivets. Reinstall adjuster in control box.
